Lamb with oven-baked rice and egg is a traditional food dish from Kosovo called “Tave me oriz”
“Tave me oriz” is something my mom used to make a lot at home for us through my childhood. I’ve changed my mom’s recipe a bit.
I spend about 2 hours like this on this dish here and it is including cooking the lamb.
- 8 lamb pieces
- 1 half onion
- 2 banana peppers
- 0.2 deciliter cooking oil / 0.08 cup cooking oil
- 3 deciliters of rice / 1.26 cup of rice
- 1 tablespoon salt / 15ml salt
- 1 tablespoon of vegeta / 15 ml of vegeta
- 7 deciliters of water / 3 cups of water
- Spices for meat: black pepper, parsley powder and vegeta powder, add to taste.
This is how you do it:
You start by boiling the lamb for about 45 minutes.
When the lamb is cooked, start by cutting half an onion, add 0.2 deciliter cooking oil / 0.08 cup cooking oil in a frying pan, the onion should be slightly browned, while the onion is fried, finely chop 2 banana peppers. It should be added with the onion, stir and let soften for 2 minutes, then add 3 deciliters of rice / 1.3 cup rice, stir well again and let it brown a little.
Then take an oven shape and add the rice to it, then add 7 deciliters of water / 3 cup water mix well with the rice in the oven shape. Then add the pieces of meat over the rice. Season the meat with: black pepper, parsley powder and vegeta, add as much seasoning as you want.
You put the oven mold in the oven for frying about 20 minutes at 220 ‘C / 428’ F, then take out the oven shape, spin the lamb on the other side and add 2 deciliters of water / 0.8 cup of water, stir and crack 3 eggs over the rice and fry in about. 5 to 10 minutes, depends entirely on whether you want the egg well-fried or low-fried.
