Cabbage with beef chunks

Cabbage with beef chunks “Mish me laker” is an Albanian traditional food dish, it is widely used in Kosovo, and this is a recipe for how my grandmother and probably all other grandmothers and mothers in Kosvo make “Mish me laker”. In the traditional way, without adding a modern twist to this dish.

Some facts about cabbage:
Super food is actually a term used about cabbage. A number of studies point to the fact that not least the head cabbage has a beneficial effect on our immune system due to the high content of glucosinolates and pectin.
Cabbage contains vitamins A and C, folate, some potassium and dietary fiber. It is low in calories and contains 92 percent water.

You need:

  • 7 pieces of fresh meat (you can choose whether you use beef or lamb).
  • 1 white cabbage
  • 2 onions
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp paprika powder
  • 1 tbsp Black pepper
    • 5 deciliters/ 2.1 cup of water a little cooking oil

This is how you do it:

First we peel and finely chop the onion.

In the kettle where we will cook the cabbage, put the oil and add finely chopped onion, fry them until they become soft.

Then add the pieces of meat (if you want to add more meat than the nummer above you can), cover the kettle and simmer slowly.

Then take the cabbage clean and cut it into small pieces, (square) and add all of it to the casserole prepared with the onion and meat, add also to the pot 5 deciliters/ 2.1 cup of water, and then covere the casserole with lid and leave it simmer slowly until we see that the cabbage has softened to a reddish color (about 2 hours)

I added red and green chilli to the top of my plate when serving, but that’s because I love spicy food. And I’m a big fan of everything that involves peppers and chilli.
